The program that you now have in your hands has led a checkered life. Apparently, it started out life as a stand alone application which was originally published in Macazine. The point at which I received the ‘CrashSaver’, it had been transformed into an Fkey, which came in the Dreams of The Phoenix format. I have enclosed that version with this document (as well as the documentation that came with that FKey).

This program is designed to allow for a return to the Finder when a
system error occurs. By pressing the Interrupt button (not the Reset
button) on the programmers switch during a system error, an
ExitToShell trap will be executed. This will return you to the
Finder (or to the Switcher). One reason for doing this is to preserve
your RamDisk.
Warning, this method will usually work, but in some cases, ExitToShell
will produced a repeated System Error.
I found CrashSaver to be very useful. In my experience it is quite successful in circumventing rebooting your machine in the event of a System crash. This is especially useful if you are using a RamDisk. The only problem is that I would forget to install it at the beginning of each session. Once you have crashed it’s too late for good intentions. It seemed obvious to me that it really should be an INIT so that it would be loaded automatically when you booted your machine. However, I am not a programmer. Yet there seemed to be one possibility, which really seemed worth a try yet it seemed so easy I figured it wouldn’t work. I used ResEdit 1.1 to open another INIT and simply removed the INIT resources that were already there. In the same session I opened the FKey version of CrahSaver and copied the resource from the FKey resource itself pasting it into the now empty INIT. I placed it into the System folder and rebooted the machine and found that it worked. When my Macintosh SE crashes I can usually recover by pressing the interrupt button on the left side of the Macintosh.
It seems that the INIT version is as successful in recovering from crashes as is the Fkey version. However, it is far more useful since I never remembered to invoke the Fkey version. I have been using this version for about 8 months as of this writing and have found no problems, nor I have I lost any data as a result of using either the FKey version or the INIT version. However, use this at your own risk I assume no responsibility for data lost as a result of using this INIT version.
